Daniel, 52, had rushed home from Scotland where he was performing on Monday night to be at his mother’s bedside.

Julia had been widowed by the premature death of her husband Francie more than 40 years ago and raised her five children single-handed.

In recent times, she had moved in with her daughter Kathleen in Kincasslagh. She had spent a lot of her time knitting and made gloves for Queen Elizabeth and socks for the Pope.
