Independent Irish MEP Rosemary 'Dana' Scallan has called on the Irish people to resist EU plans to devise a common European constitution.

Independent Irish MEP Rosemary 'Dana' Scallan has called on the Irish people to resist EU plans to devise a common European constitution.

The Convention on the Future of Europe is currently drafting blueprints for such a constitution, which Ms Scallan said will further erode Ireland's sovereignty.

"Now is the opportunity for the people - those who voted 'Yes' and those who voted 'No' in the Nice referendum - to unite together and to really have an open debate in this country," she said.
