Dáil to pass bill granting extra security for IBRC mortgage holders

The Dáil is set to pass a Fianna Fáil bill to grant extra protection to mortgage holders at the former Irish Nationwide.

The Government has decided not to oppose the bill, which is being put to a vote in the Dáíl tomorrow evening.

The bill comes less than a fortnight before IBRC sells off its 13,000 mortgages, with fears the mortgages could be sold abroad.

Fianna Fáil Finance Spokesman Michael McGrath says the government must make sure mortgage holders are protected by the Central Bank.
