The Taoiseach Enda Kenny will officially open the specialised Cystic Fibrosis Respiratory Unit on the grounds of Mayo University Hospital today.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny will officially open the specialised Cystic Fibrosis Respiratory Unit on the grounds of Mayo University Hospital today.

The unit, which is a specialised outpatient unit for children and young people, cost €1.4m of which €800,000 came from charitable funding.

The unit is one of six that has benefited from major charitable funding from Cystic Fibrosis Ireland in the last 5 years.

CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland Philip Watt has said it is a breakthrough; “There’s about 1,200 people who have Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland,

“This new centre in Mayo is a real breakthrough, it’s for children and it is the first dedicated CF centre that has opened in Mayo and it will make a real difference to the children in that area.”
