A cyclist has been seriously injured after he fell from his bike while travelling in Cork city centre this evening.

A cyclist has been seriously injured after he fell from his bike while travelling in Cork city centre this evening.

The man was cycling on Shandon Street around 5.30pm when he fell off his bike and suffered serious head injuries.

The emergency services were called and the man received treatment at the scene before being rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí closed off Shandon Street to allow the emergency services deal with the incident.

They have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them.
