Five people have been arrested in connection with a series of customs and revenue seizures across the country.

In Longford a 22-year-old man is being questioned in relation to the discovery of 6kgs of cannabis with a street value of €120,000. The drugs originated in Canada.

Two Irish women in their 30s were also arrested and released in Sligo in connection with an €11,000 tobacco find - a file is being prepared for the DPP.

In Dublin, a man in his 30s - en route from Holyhead in Wales - was questioned after the discovery of 6kgs of tobacco yesterday.

At Dublin Airport, two Romanian women were arrested and charged after they were stopped and found to be carrying €20,000 worth of L&N brand cigarettes on Wednesday.

Both have been remanded in custody and will appear in court again on 13 February.
