Creighton to announce new political party

The launch of a new political party is due to be announced this morning by former Minister of State and Fine Gael TD Lucinda Creighton.

Ms Creighton will set out her vision for the party and outline its founding principals.

The Irish Times reports that the full launch of the new party could take place next month, after "low-key" announcement today.

The Dublin South East TD was one of seven Fine Gael TDs and Senators who voted against the Government in 2013 on the controversial abortion legislation.

The Reform Alliance was subsequently formed, comprising five rebel Fine Gael TDs - Creighton, Wicklow TD Billy Timmins, Peter Mathews, Terence Flanagan, Denis Naughten and senators Paul Bradford and Fidelma Healy Eames.
