Coveney encourages people to look at fine print of abortion legislation

The Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney said that the new abortion legislation is about bringing legal clarity and putting restrictions and regulations in place in Irish law to protect both a mother and an unborn child.

The Cabinet has agreed the new abortion legislation and will tonight publish the final legislation that will allow for legalise limited abortions to save the life of a woman.

Earlier today -Enda Kenny revealed he had been sent letters written in blood and plastic foetuses from those who object to proposed legislation.

Minister Simon Coveney is urging people to read the fine print of the bill.

"I would really encourage people to look at the detail of it," he said.

"No government has ever attempted to legislate like this before, we have strong legal advice that we are required to legislate in a way that is consistent with the Supreme Court judgement and interpretation of the constitution

"This is a very emotive and awkward issue to deal with."
