A petrol bomb attack on a house in the North could have resulted in a Christmas tragedy, it was claimed today.

SDLP councillor Matthew McDermott condemned those who targeted a house in the White Rise area of Dunmurry, on the outskirts of Belfast, at around 8pm last night.

No-one was injured but a wall and some Christmas decorations were damaged.

Mr McDermott described the attack as mindless.

“It is comforting to hear that no-one was hurt as could easily have been the case and this could potentially have been a Christmas tragedy,” the Lisburn councillor said.

“This act was thoughtless, malicious and the people who carried it out have no place in our community.

“The sooner the Police Service of Northern Ireland are able to bring this person or people to justice the better.”
