Dublin City Councillors will vote this evening on whether to give the green light to a controversial flood-defence plan for Clontarf.

Dublin City Councillors will vote this evening on whether to give the green light to a controversial flood-defence plan for Clontarf.

Local residents and business owners have issued a joint statement ahead of the vote calling on the 52 councillors to "do the right thing and vote no" to the plan.

Thousands of people have held protests in the area in recent weeks in opposition to the proposal to construct a flood defence wall along the Clontarf promenade.

The flood defences will range in height from five feet to seven feet in places.
