Council publishes plans for restoring Dublin's Mountjoy Square

Plans to restore Mountjoy Square in Dublin to its original Georgian design have been published by Dublin City Council.

The Irish Times says the council is proposing to relocate a creche, community centre and sports grounds away from the historic square.

The project will reinstate the formal gardens and introduce tearooms and a bandstand at a cost of €8m.

The redevelopment will be carried out in two stages with the facilities only moved when they find new homes.

The time scale of the project will depend on council budgets but the work is due to begin in the coming months with the restoration of the railings.
