Coughlan: Bord Snip report not being shelved
The Tánaiste, Mary Coughlan, has rejected opposition claims that the Government is in disarray over how to stabilise the public finances.
Ms Coughlan herself triggered the claims when she told the Dáil yesterday that many of the Bord Snip Nua recommendations didn't make sense.
The Opposition claimed her comments showed that the recommendations were being shelved, even though Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has said they will form the basis for his Budget in December.
Speaking in the Dáil this morning, Ms Coughlan said the report was not being shelved, but the Government would consider alternatives to the cutbacks proposed in the document.
Meanwhile, Green Party leader John Gormley has admitted today that he has concerns about many of the proposals in the report.
He said many Cabinet ministers had been vocal in private with the Minister for Finance about their concerns and would be fighting to retain funding at his department.
