Cork’s Lee Road closed after flooding

The Lee Road in Cork has been closed this evening, although the city centre appears to have avoided any major flooding.

It was revealed earlier today that the ESB would release water from its hydroelectric dam in Co Cork.

There had been fears that the Kingsley hotel, located on the Carrigrohane Road, may fall victim to the flooding.

The building was severely damaged in a previous flood.

However, the five-star hotel reassured customers that it was business as usual.

The adjoinging Lee Fields area remains significantly flooded, however.

A flood risk remains, but it is thought that the city centre will not be significantly impacted.

Elsewhere, in Bandon, organisers have hailed the turnout as residents protested the lack of prevention measures after recent floods caused significant damage in the Co Cork town.
