A family from Co Cork said “our dreams have come true” as they collected their prize of €458,316 at National Lottery offices in Dublin today.

They won the prize in last Friday’s EuroMillions by matching five numbers and one Lucky Star.

They were just one Lucky Star number away from scooping Friday’s mega €80m jackpot.

The lucky winners, who play EuroMillions every week, bought their winning €9 Quick Pick ticket in Al’s Restaurant, Market Green in Midleton, Co Cork on the day of the draw.

As today’s winners sipped champagne in the National Lottery this afternoon, they reflected on their fantastic win.

“I have always been quite lucky and have won a number of small amounts on the EuroMillions in recent weeks,” explained the husband.

“I even won about €1,200 on the Lotto 12 years ago and I always said I would win big again.

“It’s still a huge shock to the system - I haven’t slept properly since I found out we’d won on Saturday night.

“I checked my numbers online and just couldn’t believe my eyes – my numbers were the same as the ones on my screen! I rang my mam and asked her and my dad to check the numbers for me again.

“Of course they thought I was joking at first and then total hysteria broke out,” he laughed.

“I was down to my last €30 on Thursday night and was terribly worried about how we were going to get through the next couple of weeks. This really couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s life changing.”

The family are looking forward to a big celebration, followed by a big family holiday to Spain for plenty of sun, sea and golf.

Speaking about how their win will improve their lives, the wife surmised, “This will allow us to buy the family home we’ve been longing for and be mortgage free. It will set us up for life - our dreams have come true.”

Tuesday’s EuroMillions jackpot is an estimated €90m.
