Commemoration ceremonies are taking place across the country this morning to honour those who died at war or on duty with the United Nations.

Commemoration ceremonies are taking place across the country this morning to honour those who died at war or on duty with the United Nations.

The President has laid a wreath in Dublin in their memory. Michael D Higgins is joined by Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tanaiste Joan Burton for the commemoration day ceremony at the Royal hospital in Kilmainham.

Some members of the new cabinet including Ministers Alex White, Frances Fitzgerald, and Heather Humphreys are also in attendance, making it their first official engagement in office.

Events are being held in Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Mayo, Sligo, Waterford to remember the 86 soldiers who died in service of the United Nations since 1960.
