Comhaltas decide to hold 2016 Fleadh Cheoil in Ennis

Ennis in County Clare has been revealed as the host of next year's Fleadh Cheoil.

The Banner County beat off stiff competition from Drogheda and Sligo, who wanted to host their third Fleadh in a row.

The decision follows a vote at Comhaltas headquarters in Dublin this afternoon.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is the biggest traditional Irish music festival in the world.

Since its beginnings in Mullingar in May 1951 it has turned into an eight-day jamboree of music, song and dance.

This year's Fleadh Cheoil will take place in Sligo between August 9 and 16.
