Clontarf residents involved in design of new flood defences
Clontarf residents are involved in a new design for flood defences almost two years after they rejected a barrier for being too ugly.
New plans are being put in place for a more attractive version. A report on the project goes before councillors on Monday.
It includes a dual defence made up of the existing sea wall and a secondary barrier as close as possible to Clontarf Road.
Antoinette O'Neill of the Clontarf Residents Association says it is primarily about keeping their promenade safe.
"Aesthetics obviously are important, but what's really special about Clontaf is how safe it is - and I think that's what we really need to protect because it is a hugely used and safe place for children, for families and it's used form very early in the morning to very late at night" she said.
"So we do need to protect it from the sea, but we also need to preserve that kind of special quality that it has" he added.
