A clampdown could be on the way on so-called quack medicine.
Fine Gael TD and Pharmacist Kate O'Connell is introducing a bill to ban claims that alternative treatments can cure things like cancer.
She says advertising regulations could be used to stop people promoting things like aloe vera, cbd oil, and light-therapy as cancer treatments.
Deputy O'Connell says there is a huge legislation gap here and it is harming people's health.
She said: "Needless to say there has been pushback where people are saying 'you're going to ban holy water and this that and the other.'
"That is not the case, it is where people are praying on vulnerable people, profiting out of it and doing harm.
"In some cases, people give up treatments, people hide these alternative treatments from their practitioners because they are afraid."
