The Civil Partnership Bill comes into effect today.

It means same-sex couples will now have their relationships formally recognised and be covered by the same entitlements and obligations as people who have a civil marriage.

Kieran Rose from the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network said the Bill is a huge advance, and "long overdue".
