Children's minister Fitzgerald promises more affordable childcare

The children's minister is promising more affordable childcare to all parents who need it.

Frances Fitzgerald said she was determined to put more money into childcare-funding schemes to ease the burden on families.

She said funding for childcare schemes was slashed under the last Government, and could not be rebuilt overnight.

But she says she's determined to rebuild the current system to lower the cost of childcare for struggling families:

"There's a history of under-investment and a withdrawal of over €300m from the sector between 2008 and 2011," she said.

"(Rebuilding the funding) will result in more affordable childcare being available to parents who need it," she said.
