Central Criminal Court to sit in Monaghan for first time

The Central Criminal Court will sit in Co Monaghan today for the first time in the history of the State.

Mr Justice Paul Carney will conduct the jury trial.

Traditionally, the Central Criminal Court sits in Dublin, however it sometimes moves out of the capital and cases are heard around the country - with today's visit to Monaghan town.

Speaking to Northern Sound, President of the Monaghan Bar Association Kevin Hickey says it is an important day for the region: “It’s a historical thing that’s happening. We’re delighted it has happened, it’s momentous for us all. We will probably enjoy it more than the general public.”
