The Garda Ombudsman is appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash in Co Kildare in the early hours of this morning, in which a man in his 20s died.

The Garda Ombudsman is appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash in Co Kildare in the early hours of this morning, in which a man in his 20s died.

The crash happened at Toghers roundabout in the Ladytown area between Naas and Newbridge, at 3.20am.

Previous reports that two cars were involved in the collision could not be confirmed by the Garda Ombudsman's office.

It is understood the man had been pursued by gardaí. He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he died a short time later.

A passenger in the car was also taken to hospital, but is understood not to have suffered serious injury. No gardaí were injured in the incident.

The cause of the crash is still not known.

The Garda Ombudsman would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a red Toyota Corolla with a 99-D registration plate between the hours of 2.30am and 3.20am.

The car was seen at the Kilminchy roundabout in Portlaoise travelling north along the Dublin Road between 2.30am and 3am.

It was then seen travelling through Naas town centre shortly before the fatal incident.

Spokesperson for the Garda Ombudsman is Graham Doyle said anyone with information count contact the Ombudsman's office on 1890 600 800.
