Calls to maintain garda resources in response to Dublin gangland feud
There have been renewed calls to maintain adequate resources and overtime for Gardaí is integral to de-escalating the ongoing gangland feud in Dublin.
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Justice, Jim O’Callaghan was commenting on the latest shooting, which took place on Saturday evening in West Dublin.
"Garda resources and overtime must be maintained in order to keep tackling this feud," he said.
"A number of weeks ago it was announced that over time for those part of the Special Detectives Unit had been cut back.
"The Gardaí have done an excellent job to date in curtailing the vicious violence of the Kinahan Hutch feud. The main reason for this has been the increased Garda presence on the ground over recent months.
"The 30% reduction in high visibility, armed Garda patrols is a retrograde step and will significantly reduce the ability of the Gardaí to continue their fight against organised crime."
Gardaí are appealing for information after 27-year-old Derek Hutch - also known as Derek Coakley - was shot dead at the Bridgeview Halting Site in Ronanstown.
Gardaí said yesterday that they are looking for the public’s help in relation to two vehicles.
John Gordon of Lucan Garda Station said: “We would like the public’s assistance in the movement of the black VW Golf 05-CE-1675 which was found burnt out nearby shortly afterwards, and subsequent to that, at approximately 6.25pm, a black Toyota Avensis 04-D-72956 was found burnt out at the rear of the Snowdrop Walk in Darndale.
“We are requesting the public’s assistance to help us locate the movement of those vehicles, in particular people who may have dash cam footage to mark the movement of the vehicles.”
Derek Hutch is the 14th victim of the ongoing Hutch - Kinahan feud in the city.
