'Busted noses, busted lips and off their heads': 14 in hospital after Hardwell gig

An investigation is underway in Belfast after about 50 teenagers had to be treated for the effects of drink or drugs at a gig.

Medical teams declared a major incident last night due to the number of people needing help outside the Odyssey Arena.

Fourteen teenagers were taken to hospital. Their conditions are now described as stable. Toxicology tests will be carried out today on many of those who fell ill.

The venue claims that teens who arrived "intoxicated" were not allowed into the gig by Dutch electronic dance DJ Hardwell.

The DJ is performing at the O2 in Dublin tonight.

One man outside the Odyssey last night said he was shocked by what he saw.

"I was at Manchester last weekend for Hardwell and it was everybody over 18 enjoying themselves…and what happened here in Belfast? I was met by youngsters with busted noses, busted lips and off their heads.

"It's a shame and a disgrace."

A young fan said people were "falling about and fighting".

Emergency crews erect a medical tent outside the venue.
