Businessman Jim Mansfield dies

Businessman Jim Mansfield has died.

The former owner of Weston Aerodrome and the Citywest development in Dublin passed away this morning. He was in his mid-seventies.

Mr Mansfield had suffered from the degenerative neurological condition, MSA (multiple system atrophy).

He had been subject to court proceeding in recent years after the collapse of his hotel, convention centre and golf course empire left him owing millions to banks, suppliers and employees.

The Citywest complex was placed into receivership in 2010 while the following year, NAMA seized the last of the major assets in Mansfield's property empire.

The businessman is survived by his wife Anne and three sons Tony, Jimmy and PJ.
