Bus-strike talks resume, as another two-day stoppage looms

Talks between management and unions at Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann will resume at the Labour Relations Commission this morning, as a second two-day strike looms.

Discussions aimed at averting industrial action this weekend were adjourned yesterday after just over two and a half hours.

Drivers are due to engage in a two-day strike on Friday and Saturday in an ongoing row over plans to put 10% of routes out to tender.

It follows two days of strike action earlier this month.

Dermot O'Leary from the National Bus and Railworkers Union said that, although the issues up for debate were complex, he was hopeful of a resolution.

"The objective here from the trade union perspective is to get clarity around the future of both bus companies and assurances around the existing staff," he said.

"Nobody wants to strike. The focus is to get a resolution here, and we're glad to report that all sides seem now to be at one on that."

Today's talks are due to start at 10am.
