British sex offender arrested in Cavan

A registered sex offender who has been missing since failing to turn up at court two months ago has been traced by police.

Lorcan Halton, from the Saracen area of Glasgow, was detained in Co Cavan.

The 45-year-old failed to appear in court on January 15 and police said he was last seen the previous week in Cairnryan, in south west Scotland, where he boarded the ferry to Belfast.

News of his disappearance emerged earlier this week when police issued an appeal after “extensive inquiries” proved unsuccessful.

Members of the public were warned not to approach him.

He was identified in Ireland today and has been detained.
