Brian Stanley appointed chair of Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee

Sinn Fein's Brian Stanley has been appointed chair of the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.

He has been a TD for the Laois–Offaly constituency since the 2020 general election.

TDs get a €9,500 boost to their salary for taking on the role and the group is considered to be one of the most powerful at Leinster House.

Mr Stanley was previously a TD for the Laois constituency from 2016 to 2020, and for Laois–Offaly from 2011 to 2016.

He is currently Sinn Féin's spokesperson for the environment, community and local government. He contested the seat unsuccessfully at the 2002 and 2007 general elections.

In 2004 he was elected as a member of Laois County Council for the Portlaoise local electoral area, and was re-elected in 2009. His wife, Caroline Dwane Stanley, is a member of Laois County Council.
