A six-year-old boy has died after being knocked down by a car in Co Kilkenny.

A six-year-old boy has died after being knocked down by a car in Co Kilkenny.

The incident occurred at Lintown Grove, Lintown Hall, a housing estate on the outskirts of Kilkenny city, at around 6.30pm this evening.

The boy was taken to St Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow.

The driver of the car, a female in her 40s who was the sole occupant of the car, was uninjured in the collision.

The road has been closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Kilkenny Garda station on 056 7775000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
