Bomb squad called to examine suspicious device in Co Mayo

A number of buildings had to be evacuated in Ballina, Co Mayo, this morning after the army bomb squad was called in to examine a suspicious device.

The Defence Forces arrived at the scene at 7.30am this morning.

A cordon was set up and buildings evacuated for the duration of the operation.

The device was made safe and has been removed for further examination.

The operation finished up at 11am.
