The Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe a viable improvised explosive device in Co Cork this evening.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe a viable improvised explosive device in Co Cork this evening.

The Defence Forces deployed the bomb squad in response to a request from Gardaí, after a suspect device was found outside a private house in the Churchfield area by a member of the public.

The team arrived on scene at 6.20pm. The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and was brought to a secure military location for further examination.

All component parts will be handed over to Gardaí to assist them with their investigation into the incident.

The scene was declared safe at 7.20pm.
