Gardaí are not treating as suspicious the discovery of an elderly woman’s body at her home in Kilkenny on Thursday evening.

The woman’s body was discovered when the driver of a food delivery van attempted to drop groceries into her house in Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny.

The man alerted the emergency services and gardaí which were quickly on the scene when he couldn’t get into the house.

Two ambulances arrived at the house and paramedics eventually managed to gain entry.

However, it is understood the woman may have been dead for several days. She was surrounded by her pet cats when she was found.

Her remains were transferred to Waterford University Hospital for a post mortem examination to be carried out.
