The late Maeve Binchy was the highest earning Irish author last year, according to the latest Nielsen figures.

The 72-year-old's final work, 'A Week in Winter' was finished shortly before her death, and published with her husband's permission in September.

It took in €525,926 through sales of 36,582.

The 'Fifty Shades' trilogy by EL James earned €2,805,347.23 in this country in 2012.

The best selling Irish non-fiction book was 'Just Mary' by former Fianna Fáil politician Mary O'Rourke, which earned €363,600 in sales.
