Belfast shooting condemned as 'relic of the past'
A paramilitary shooting that left two men with gunshot wounds to their legs was condemned today as a relic of the violent past.
The men, aged 23 and 25, were each shot in the left leg in the Etna Drive area of Ardoyne in north Belfast at 11pm last night.
They were treated in hospital for their injuries and police have appealed for information on the incident.
Alliance Party north Belfast representative Billy Webb called on the public to help stamp out such attacks.
"I am disgusted by the perpetrators of this shooting. Attacks like this have no place in our society, it is a relic of the past. This act has achieved nothing except to cause pain and hurt in our community," said the councillor.
"I hope these young men are able to make a speedy recover from their injuries. My thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
"I would urge anybody with any information about this shooting to contact the police. These people must be taken off our streets by the police before they carry out another callous attack."
