The Irish Banking Federation has turned down a request from Priory Hall residents to meet to discuss the impending mortgage crisis for more than 100 families who own homes in the North Dublin complex.
The residents are calling on the banks to temporarily freeze their mortgages.
However, the IBF said it would not meet residents, advising them that the banks would only deal with residents’ mortgages on a case-by-case basis.
Last October, residents at the apartment block in Donaghmede were told their homes were unsafe to live in because of fire safety concerns.
Spokesperson for the Priory Hall residents Graham Usher said the IBF's response was very disappointing.
"Come April 24, Dublin City Council will go to the Supreme Court to appeal an accommodation order. If they're successful, we'll be forced to pay rent and a mortgage.
"We won't be able to afford to pay the mortgage...We'll get into a spiral of debt. We're just looking for a reasonable, sort-term solution to try to avoid that situation."
