BAI rejects complaints over Dobson ‘idiots’ comment

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has rejected seven complaints over an incident in which RTÉ Newscaster Bryan Dobson referred to protesters as "idiots".

The complaints relate to an edition of the ‘Six One News’ last November when an interview with economist Ronan Lyons outside Government Buildings had to be cut short as anti-bailout demonstrators come into shot in the background.

The BAI said Mr Dobson's comments did not infringe broadcasting rules on fairness and impartiality.

They were simply an "off the cuff" remark given the "frustration" caused by having to cut the segment short.
