Back-to-school affordability plan being prepared for Government

A plan aimed at making back-to-school costs more affordable for parents is due to be brought before the Government next month.

Parents and public school teachers have been making submissions to the plan, and it is hoped it will be in place before the next school term.

According to children's charity Barnardos, the average back-to-school cost per child ranges from €355 to €770, depending on age.

Labour TD Aodhan O'Riordan has said some of the suggestions already in include rolling the book-rental scheme out more widely and sewing crests onto jumpers instead of buying 'official' school jumpers.
