More than €243m was awarded by the Injuries Board last year, almost 12% more than the €218m awarded in 2012.

In all, the Injuries Board made more than 10,600 personal injury awards in 2013, a rise of 5.1% on the previous year, with most relating to motor liability.

The average value of awards last year was almost €23,000, although more than 100 awards exceeded €100,000.

Dublin, Limerick, Louth, Carlow and Longford saw the most awards per head of population in 2013.
