Average cost of getting married is €24,000

Irish couples are spending an average of €24,000 on their wedding and honeymoon.

A survey of over 2,000 brides and grooms by the website Mrs2Be.ie revealed an increase in the amount of money couples are spending on venues, bands, wedding dresses, stationery, transport and their honeymoon.

However, less money is being spent on photographers and wedding djs.

The survey also revealed that engagements are getting shorter with the majority of couples being engaged for 13 to 18 months.

December is the most popular month to pop the question, followed by February.
