Attorney General was at family event instead of Cabinet meeting

It has emerged the Attorney General, Máire Whelan, did not attend Cabinet yesterday as she had a private family event.

Ms Whelan was not at the weekly meeting when the Government decided to set up a Commission of Investigation into the secret recording of phone calls in Garda stations.

However, a spokesperson for the Coalition says she had been working in advance with the Taoiseach and had offered all necessary legal advice.
