Atheism Ireland to launch course for schools

The country's first ever school course on atheism is being developed.

Atheism Ireland will launch the initiative at its AGM in Galway city today.

The group plans to develop a lesson plan designed for primary school children.

The scheme is being developed in conjunction with Educate Together which runs non-denominational primary schools around the country.

Michael Nugent of Atheism Ireland said the objective is to educate about the basic beliefs of atheism.

Mr Nugent said the course could even be used in religious schools where parents want to give their children an alternative view.
