ASTI publishes deal hammered out in teacher talks

Details of the deal offered to ASTI teachers yesterday have emerged, after the union published the offer on its website today.

It includes an opt-out clause for teachers who do not want to carry out supervision and substitution duties.

There is also a proposal to gradually increase pay for newly qualified staff to almost €34,000 and a strategy to improve teachers health and wellbeing.

The deal is similar to that already accepted by the TUI and INTO unions. It is being considered today by the ASTI's 23-member standing committee after which it will be presented to its 180-member central executive committee.
