London's Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) has said that, while there is a risk that some ash cloud may reach parts of northern Europe in the next 24 hours, no flight disruption is expected in Irish airspace.

London's Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) has said that, while there is a risk that some ash cloud may reach parts of northern Europe in the next 24 hours, no flight disruption is expected in Irish airspace.

The situation is being kept under review and may change depending on the continuing eruption of Iceland's Grimsvotn volcano and the meteorological conditions.

In the meantime, passengers have been advised to check the website of their airline.

Met Eireann and the Aviation Authority here say they're monitoring developments.

The Civil Aviation Authority in the UK says the cloud is expected to reach Scottish airspace between 6pm and midnight tonight, and that services could be affected from a number of airports.

Last year's eruption from another Icelandic volcano grounded thousands of flights for days.
