A man has been arrested after trying to enter Leinster House armed with a sword and two knives.

A man has been arrested after trying to enter Leinster House armed with a sword and two knives.

The incident happened shortly after 4.30pm.

It is understood the 19-year-old man was holding one weapon, while the others were concealed in his footwear.

Security staff were able to lock the main entrance to Leinster House and stop the man from entering the building, he was then detained by Gardaí at the scene.

He has been taken to Pearse St Garda station.
