An anti-racism group is accusing the Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, of failing to run the asylum process in a fair and transparent manner.

The Residents Against Racism group is due to hold a rally at the GPO in Dublin today.

The group claims the Department of Justice has shown itself to be uncaring and inflexible where recent deportations are concerned.

Spokesperson Rosanna Flynn said: “I just do not think that politicians are the right people to deal with what is actually a human rights issue – it’s not a political one, and it should be experts in the human rights field who deal with it.”
