Almost 900 Irish deported from Australia, double previous figures

Almost 900 Irish people have been deported from Australia for violating the terms of their visas.

Figures from the past three years show 891 ex-pats were sent home after breaching the terms of their travel permits. Most of those overstayed illegally.

Overstaying can mean a person is disqualified from getting another temporary visa for three years.

The numbers of Irish ex-pats being told to leave has increased massively – authorities said there has been a doubling of figures from previous years.
