Alleged child porn facilitator will challenge decision not to charge him

The man the FBI has described as the biggest facilitator of child pornography on the planet may challenge the DPP's decision not to press charges against him in Ireland.

Eric Eoin Marques, with an address at Mountjoy Square, has hired a new legal team to fight his extradition to the United States

Marques is alleged to be the owner and administrator of an anonymous hosting site known as Freedom Hosting.

He is wanted by US authorities to face charges relating to conspiring to distribute and advertise child pornography.

The 28-year-old has hired a new team of lawyers - the same team that is representing Ali Charaf Damache, an Algerian born Irish citizen accused of terrorism who is also fighting his extradition to the US.

Today the lawyers indicated to the High Court that Marques, may like Damache, apply for a judicial review of the DPP's decision not to press charges against him in Ireland - Marques previously indicated he would plead guilty if the case were tried here.

Damache lost his challenge – but the lawyers will be waiting for Friday’s written judgment to find out why.

In the meantime Marques’s extradition proceedings have been put back until next month.
