A special advisor to Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor has resigned.

A special advisor to Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor has resigned.

Former TV3 newsreader Alan Cantwell had only held the role for five months.

In a statement this evening the minister said he was "a good colleague and friend" and that she was sad to see him leave.

It is understood Mr Cantwell is stepping down for personal reasons.
