Airports in south and west closed to flights

The Irish Aviation Authority has said restrictions will be put on flights into and out of Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Shannon Airports until tomorrow morning.

The authority said that indications from the Volcanic Ash Advice Centre are that the ash cloud will present a serious risk to flights in and out of the south and west for the next few hours.

It also hasn't ruled out further restrictions being placed in other areas.

It comes as Ryanair has announced it is to cancel all scheduled flights to and from the UK and Ireland - and most of Northern Europe - until 1pm next Monday.

Aer Lingus has also cancelled all UK and Europe flights from Dublin, Cork and Shannon until 1pm tomorrow.
