Age Action urges elderly to take care in wintry weather

Elderly people are being reminded to take extra care and look after themselves in the current cold weather.

Age Action is urging them to stay in phone contact with family and friends, with the wintry conditions expected to last until later this week at least.

The mercury is due to hit as low as minus six degrees tomorrow night, and snow is expected in some parts of the country.

Meanwhile there are amber warnings in place for snow across northern England, the Scottish Borders and eastern Scotland as the cold snap continues there too.

A further ten to twenty centimetres, that is roughly four to eight inches, of snowfall is expected.

Yellow warnings of sleet or snow showers continue for parts of eastern England, as well as Northern Ireland.
